“Be Your Personal Best!”

     Welcome to the school year at Railroad Canyon Elementary.  My name is Lori Recatto.  It is an honor for me to be a part of the Railroad Canyon Elementary School team this year. As principal, it is my primary goal to ensure there is a positive learning environment in which students can excel academically and socially.
       
        In the upcoming year, we will continue to work as a cooperative learning community by working together toward the common goal of ensuring student success. Our focus this year is to continue with our mission to provide a safe, supportive learning environment in which students reach their highest potential. Railroad Canyon staff members will continue to monitor our students through the Response to Intervention model of instruction. In this model, teachers provide early, effective assistance to students who are having difficulty learning and extending learning for students who master content easily. Railroad Canyon teachers meet in grade level teams weekly to analyze student data and use this information to guide instruction. Teachers develop group and individual goals at each grade level.

         An important aspect of education is to prepare students to become good citizens who possess the skills necessary for social mobility. This school year, we will refine the school-wide positive behavior support component of the Response to Intervention model of student interventions. Together with our students, we will refine the Behavior Expectation Matrix to help facilitate the creation of a safe, respectful school climate where all students can learn and do their personal best.

           We will continue to focus on specific character traits each month. Students are rewarded weekly for displaying the qualities of these traits. Monthly dog tags are awarded for exemplary demonstration of these traits. Dog tags are also awarded for academic and athletic performance.

            We are looking forward to another exciting year at Railroad Canyon. We have high expectations and goals for the new school year. I'm looking forward to getting to know all of our families and the community of Railroad Canyon Elementary!
